Daily US Gasoline Demand Skyrockets Sep. 21

US gasoline demand jumped 9.5% Sep. 21 compared with the same time last week, according to GasBuddy.

  • The week to date gasoline demand is now 3.7% above the previous week’s demand level.
  • Gasoline pump prices are averaging $3.829/gal, down $1.2 cents/gal on the previous week’s average.
  • Prices continued to see the largest gains on the week in the states on the West Coast, with Nevada’s gasoline pump prices up 27.2 cents/gal followed by California at 24.7 cents/gal.
  • A more than 50% jump in mechanical outages in the first nine months of 2023 combined with higher planned maintenance has tightened fuel supplies and boosted prices, according to Reuters.
