Dangote Refinery in Talks for Libyan and Angolan Crude

OIL

Nigeria’s Dangote refinery is in talks with Libya and Angola to secure crude supplies as its mega refinery seeks to boost production.

  • The refinery has been unable to obtain suitable crude supply from domestic production, forcing it to turn towards more costly imports.
  • "We are talking to Libya about importing crude," Dangote refinery senior executive Devakumar Edwin told Reuters late on Saturday. "We will talk to Angola as well and some other countries in Africa."
  • "The biggest offtakers are the two big traders Trafigura and Vitol and BP and, to some extent, even TotalEnergies. But all of them are saying they are taking it to offshore," Edwin said.
  • The Dangote refinery is taking a greater share of the West Africa gasoil market and pushing out European volumes but there have been disputes with the upstream regulator over sulphur content.
