JET FUEL: Dec Global Airline Capacity to Rise 4.7% on Year: OAG

Global airline passenger capacity in December 2024 will reach 487.8m seats, up 4.7% on the year, OAG said.

  • Carriers have added 21.8m seats across a range of regions including APAC (9.9m extra) and Europe (5.2m extra).
  • The region with the strongest growth is North Africa, where capacity has increased by 13.1% on the year.
  • The top country pairs seeing the strongest growth start or end in China. Capacity on the China-Japan route is up 61.0% on the year but is 25% below pre-pandemic levels.
  • The fastest growing domestic markets this month amongst the top 10 largest are Turkey, up 7.7%, and India, up 7.6% on the year.
  • India is the third largest domestic market with 17.1m seats but is dwarfed by the USA and Cina with 86.9m seats and 67.1m seats respectively.
