Dep Gazprom CEO-We Haven't Received Nord Stream Turbine

RUSSIA

Comments from Gazprom Deputy CEO Vitaly Markelov states that at present, only one gas processing unit is up and running at the Portovaya compressor station at the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

  • Says that Gazprom has not received the turbine from Siemens after maintenance in Canada.
  • Says that other units also require maintenance or servicing from Siemens.
  • Markelov: There are sanctions risks for turbines...Siemens is not working to solve issues.

There remain reduced gas flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. Speculation that Russia is using maintenance issues as a cover for reducing flows. This reduction limits EU countries' abilities to boost gas storage during the summer in order to have sufficient reserves in winter. Russia attempting to pressure EU states into loosening sanctions by risking an energy supply crunch in the colder months.
