Deputy PM-Agreement w/Poland To Lift Blockade At 1 Border Crossing

UKRAINE

Wires reporting that according to the Ukrainian Deputy PM, Kyiv has come to an agreement with Poland that will see the border blockade at one crossing point lifted. Polish truckers have been blocking the border with Ukraine for over a month in protest at the EU relaxing some transportation rules and alleged undercutting of their business by Ukrainian hauliers. Rtrs: "Polish hauliers' main demand is to stop Ukrainian truckers having permit-free access to the European Union, something that Kyiv and Brussels say is impossible."

  • With a new Polish gov't set to come to power on 12/13 Dec focus will be on the stance of the incoming administration towards the dispute. While the broad coalition of incoming PM Donald Tusk will want to repair relations with the EU, Tusk will also be keenly aware of the impact of him not being seen to stand up for Polish truckers.
