Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remains the most favoured US political leader as he lays the groundwork for a 2024 presidential campaign launch.
- According to Real Clear Politics, DeSantis has a favourability of +7.2%, significantly higher than President Joe Biden, the second most favoured leader, with -11%.
- The Washington Post reported over the week that, although DeSantis is yet to publicly confirm a 2024 run, his aides are preparing for a presidential campaign by making connections in key primary states.
- WaPo: “Advisers to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are actively preparing for a possible presidential run, according to two Republicans with knowledge of the conversations who described meetings and preliminary staffing moves — the latest indication that DeSantis is laying a foundation for a national campaign. DeSantis’s political team has already identified multiple potential hires in early primary states such as New Hampshire and Iowa.”
- Former President Donald Trump is the only candidate to have declared for 2024, with President Biden excepted to announce a bid for re-election in the coming weeks.
