DeSantis To "Reset" Flagging Campaign With CNN Interview

US

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will be interviewed by CNN’s Jake Tapper today at 16:00 ET 21:00 BST, the first non-Fox News cable interview of his campaign, as he tries to “reset” his flagging 2024 presidential bid.

  • Axios reports: “Republican support for DeSantis has dipped below the 20% mark in RCP's average of polls for the first time since mid-May. The popular GOP governor's months-long, downward trajectory has stirred speculation that he's destined for a Scott Walker-like flameout.”
  • Campaign finance disclosures this week have illustrated a serious funding shortfall for the DeSantis campaign. Politico notes that, "the candidate campaigning on his executive experience and success running large organizations spent 40% of what he raised, with little to show for it. He had a million-dollar payroll and spent almost that much on travel. His small-dollar donor game was anemic (15% of donations), and $3 million of what he’d raised was earmarked for the general election."
  • Betting markets now see DeSantis in a distance second place to former President Donald Trump in implied probability of taking the Republican presidential nomination.
