Reuters reporting comments from a draft G7 communique that it has seen. G7 leaders on energy:

  • G7 stresses 'important role' that increased deliveries of LNG can play in addressing impact of Russia's war on energy. Acknowledges that investments in gas sector can be appropriate in response to current crisis. Publicly supported investment in gas sector can be appropriate as a temporary response to accelerating the phase out of dependency on Russian energy.
  • Members which use nuclear energy will work with like-minded partners to reduce dependence on Russia. Highlights 'real and urgent' need to accelerate green energy transition also as a means of increasing energy security. Highlights needs to 'significantly accelerate' deployment of renewable energies and next-gen technologies. Low-carbon and renewable hydrogen and its derivatives such as ammonia should be developed and used if they are impactful as effective emission reductions tools.
