Dragon and Grain LNG Import Capacity Available for 2029

The UK's Dragon LNG plans to offer 9bcm/year of import capacity for 2029 onwards while Grain LNG also still has some 2029 capacity available, according to ICIS.

  • An expression of interest period in the capacity at Dragon is running until 1 July 2024.
  • Initial 20 year contracts put in place when projects were first launched are coming up to expiry releasing the capacity back to the market for new customers or for the existing customers to rebook.
  • Dragon LNG's opened in 2009 with initial backers BG Group (now part of Shell) and Malaysia's Petronas.
  • Grain LNG started over various phases from 2005. Three capacity packages for 2029 onwards were put on sale by operator National Grid last year. One capacity package of 3.0mtpa (4.2bcm) is still available after Algeria's Sonatrach and US Venture Global secured the other two.
  • Capacity at South Hook LNG which also opened in 2009 is not yet available with initial contracts, mostly held by Qatar, in place for 25 years.
