US STOCKS: Early Equities Roundup: Risk On Over Tariff Timing, Exemption Chances

- Stocks are extending midmorning highs at the moment, adding to post-PPI data bounce. Sentiment improved as markets latch onto reporting by CNBC that President Trump's reciprocal tariff announcement later this afternoon won't see immediate implementation - and may include exemptions.
- Reuters reported on possible tariff exemptions had buoyed European auto shares overnight citing "US Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he believed President Trump is considering tariff exemptions that could include the automotive and pharmaceutical industries".
- Currently, the DJIA trades up 131.14 points (0.3%) at 44498.16, S&P E-Minis up 38.5 points (0.63%) at 6111, Nasdaq up 213 points (1.1%) at 19861.21.
- Consumer Discretionary and Information Technology sectors outperformed in the first half, the Discretionary sector buoyed by autos and resort stocks: after beating estimates and receiving several upgrades MGM Resorts surged 13.35%, Caesars Entertainment +5.76% and Wynn Resorts +2.46% while Tesla gained 6.11%, far outpacing Ford's gain of 1.57%.
- Technology stocks supported by strong gains in chip makers: Intel +8.32%, Tyler Technologies +6.76%, Nvidia +3.77%.
- Conversely, Industrials and Financials underperformed in the first half, airlines weighing on the former: United -4.89%, Delta -4.02%, Southwest -0.67%. Services shares weighed on Financials: Global Payments -2.88%, Fidelity National -2.23%, AIG -2.07%.
- Stocks expected to announce earnings after the close include: Molson Coors Beverage, CBRE Group, Duke Energy Corp, TransUnion, Altice USA, Howmet Aerospace, Digital Realty Trust, Dexcom, Republic Services and GoDaddy Inc.
