Economic Activity Contracts More Than Expected In March

  • Economy activity contracted more than forecast in March as the monthly rate of inflation accelerated to its highest level in 20 years.
  • Economic activity fell 0.7% in March from February, more than economists’ expectation for a 0.3% contraction. From a year ago, the economy expanded 4.8% during the month, according to government data published Thursday. This was below the surveyed median estimate of +6.2%.
