Economy Minister Guedes Meets With Businessmen

  • Economy Minister Paulo Guedes has a lunch meeting with industry representatives, including Aco Brasil Institute President Marco Polo de Mello Lopes, Anfavea President Marcio de Lima Leite and CBIC’s Real Estate Sector Committee President Jose Carlos Martins.
    • The meeting is scheduled for 1pm in Brasilia, according to Minister’s official agenda.
  • According to the latest DataFolha poll, President Bolsonaro has narrowed the deficit margin for the 2022 Presidential election. Bolsonaro would now get 32%, up from 29%. Lula would win 47% of votes in the first round, unchanged from the last survey taken at the end of July.
  • Brazil raised 2.7 billion reais ($521 million) with the sale of licenses to operate 15 airports, including Sao Paulo’s Congonhas, one of the busiest in the country, in an auction with few competitors ahead of the October presidential elections. (BBG)
  • As a reminder on Thursday, Lower House speaker Arthur Lira said Brazil’s Congress must attempt to design a more flexible budget rule compared to the current spending cap model, speaking during an event in Sao Paulo organized by BTG Pactual.
    • Lira said Brazil’s financial system knows how to operate in moments of crisis.
    • Lira added he believes incumbent Jair Bolsonaro is wrong when criticizing Brazil’s electronic voting system and added that he has already talked to the president about those attacks. (Bloomberg)
