PERU: Economy Minister Salardi Targets $100bn Exports In Medium-Term

PERU
  • Economy Minister Jose Salardi said yesterday that total exports will surpass the $100bn mark in the medium term, up from a record $76bn last year. Salardi noted that the trade surplus reached a record high of $24bn as well last year.
  • Meanwhile, Salardi said that the government will ensure a prudent and responsible management of the fiscal accounts this year, targeting a 2.2% of GDP deficit, which would mark an improvement from a 3.6% of GDP deficit last year.
  • On the data front, the next tier one release is February CPI inflation on March 01, where the headline rate is seen falling to just 1.46% y/y. This would be the lowest level since September 2018, potentially opening the door to a renewed BCRP interest rate cut in March.
