Economy Remains Most Important Issue For American Voters

US

A new survey from Ipsoshas found that the economy remains the most important issue for American voters, but immigrations is now in second place, with more Republicans now reporting that immigration a more important issue than the economy.

  • The survey also finds that, while concerns over the economy have eased, President Biden's approval rating has dropped slightly this month, and, "only 16% of Americans say the country is headed in the right direction."
  • The survey demonstrates how important successfully reforming border policy could be for president Biden's prospect of re-election. Particularly with Independent voters, 15% of whom consider immigration the most important issue.
  • Senate negotiators are expected to release the full text of their border security package by Sunday with a procedural vote in the Senate likely to come before Wednesday. The package faces serious hurdles in both chambers of Congress but the politics of the legislation may inform the narrative on immigration ahead of November's election, despite whether the package becomes law or now.
