EdF Cut Nuclear Output Forecast In France

EdF has revised down its nuclear output estimates in France to 275-285TWh, from 280-230TWh previously estimated, as the company extends several outages.

  • Nuclear output in France has been affected by maintenance after strike action in September and October. Outage extensions of four nuclear reactors that have been involved in inspections and repairs related to the stress corrosion phenomenon (CCS), EdF said on Wednesday.
  • EdF has completed repair works related to the CCS on six reactors. EdF extended downtime at over 8GW of generation capacity at the Chooz 1, Cattenom 1 and 3 and Penly 2 reactors that need further repairs. Assessments at Golfech 1 and Flammanville 1 reactors are continuing, the company said.
  • Recently, President Emmanuel Macron announced the government wants to make rules to build new nuclear facilities faster, amid France’s nuclear maintenance issues.
  • The French government is seeking parliament’s approval for legislation to reduce overall construction time by more than two years by accelerating the decision and planning process, according to the French Energy Transition Ministry.
