BOND SUMMARY
BOND SUMMARY: EGB/Gilt: It has been a rather uneventful morning for EGBs and
gilts with no huge catalysts to drive the market.
- With market pricing for this month's BoE meeting having shifted substantially
over the past week following comments from Carney, Tenreyro, Vlieghe and
Saunders, there has been much speculation in the market surrounding a speech
from BoE Chief Economist Andy Haldane due for tonight. Haldane had written a
foreword for a book of essays published by the RSA in which he discussed how
flexible labour laws could have harmed the economy and that there could be
"natural limits to the benefits ...in boosting an economy's efficiency". Haldane
is due to speak tonight at an RSA event but the BoE press office has confirmed
that he is not speaking in an official capacity as a BoE member.
- Bunds have outperformed gilts and USTs this morning, but on no real news.
Peripheral spreads have widened a little this morning too.
- Gilt futures are up 0.15 today at 133.44 with 10y yields down -1.9bp at 0.634%
and 2y yields down -1.4bp at 0.444%. Bund futures are up 0.22 today at 171.68
with BTP futures down -0.15 at 142.64 and OAT futures up 0.13 at 164.08.
