Electricity Min To Speak On Energy Situation, Poll Suggests ANC Is On Back Foot In KZN

  • Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will provide an update on the implementation of South Africa's Energy Action Plan. In the meantime, Eskom announced that loadshedding would remain suspended until 16:00 today before Stage 2 power cuts kick in. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.
  • Provincial ANC leader in KwaZulu-Natal played down an latest opinion poll suggesting that an IFP-DA coalition could win more votes than his party in the region in next year's general election. The poll conducted by the Social Research Foundation (SRF) showed the DA polling even higher on the provincial ballot.
  • South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) expressed concern over the outbreak of violence in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the ANC said that the actions of Hamas militants were "unsurprising" as "South Africa's apartheid history is occupied Palestine's reality".
