EMISSIONS: Container Shipping EU ETS Charges to Rise Next Year

EMISSIONS

EU ETS charges for container shippers are set to rise sharply next year, a presentation from Drewry showed.

  • EU ETS charges for a 40ft container for an Asia-Europe service are set rise to €75-85, compared with around €46 in the first quarter of this year.
  • The increase is due to longer routes via the Cape of Good Hope and a ramp up in the EU ETS implementation with 70% of emissions required to purchase allowances next year, compared with 40% in 2024.
