ENEOS Buys One Rare Prompt MR-Sized Jet Fuel Cargo: Platts

JET FUEL

Japan’s largest refiner ENEOS has bought at least one rare prompt MR-sized jet fuel cargo for July loading, trade sources told Platts, likely an attempt to address Japan’s aviation fuel shortages.

  • The cargo is set to load July 22-24 from Qingdao.
  • ENEOS was yet to decide on its import volume and timing, as it is first considering boosting jet fuel production.
  • Japan’s demand for jet fuel is expanding amid a tourism boom boosted by a weakening yen.
  • The deal also coincides with technical issues at the company’s 203k b/d Kashima refinery, where ENEOS shut its 168k b/d CDU.
  • Japan is at its peak refinery maintenance, having idled around one third of its total 3.11m b/d refining capacity.
