Equinor Makes Commercially Viable North Sea Gas Discovery

Norway’s’ Equinor has made a gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea believed to contain between 2 billion and 11 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas.

  • The find is located 23 kilometers south of the Irpa gas discovery and also close to the Aasta Hansteen field.
  • Being near other infrastructure makes the discovery more economically viable to develop according to Equinor.
  • Norway has emerged as the biggest gas supplier to Europe after Nord Stream 1 flows ceased making further gas discoveries essential for European energy security.
