Erdogan and Putin to Meet Later Today

  • President Erdogan will meet Russian counterpart Putin today in Astana. Yesterday, Putin said that Russia can send natural gas that cannot be sent from Nord Stream via the Black Sea, and potentially even establish a natural gas hub in Turkey for Europe in a further sign that the Kremlin is looking to strengthen its ties with Turkey amid deteriorating EU relations.
  • Dunya report that citizens’ access to finance is becoming an even greater problem with the ratio of personal loans and credit cards to total loans, which had been within the range of 30-35%, falling below 20% this year. Furthermore, the number of individuals who cannot pay their debts is increasing, with 516 thousand more individuals unable to fulfil credit card obligations as of August, taking the total number to 4.16 million.
  • Elsewhere, 10 million people who were put on a blacklist due to being unable to pay for unpaid debts will be given until July 2023 to repay under new bill proposals to be considered today, Dunya report.
