Free AccessErdogan Putin Meeting Concludes: Focus on Gas, Syria - No Talk of S-400s So Far
- Erdogan's meeting with Putin in Sochi ends after approximately 2 hours 45 minutes.
- Making statements before the tete-a-tete meeting, President Erdoğan said regarding Turkey-Russia relations, "The steps we take together regarding Syria are of great importance.
- The peace of that region also depends on the relations between Turkey and Russia." Putin, on the other hand, said before the meeting, "Our meetings with Erdogan do not always go smoothly. However, our relevant institutions and organizations can find a consensus."
- They discussed the agenda in the economic sector and in international relations. In particular, Putin pointed to the successful cooperation of the two countries on the situation in Syria and Libya.
- On Energy matters, Putin also thanked Erdogan for his stance on the construction of TurkStream, owing to which Ankara feels safe amid the difficulties on the European gas market.
- Erdogan, for his part, touched upon the issue of a joint project - the construction of the first Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the country, whose first power unit may be unveiled already next year.
