Erdogan To Hold Talks w/Guterres On Grain Deal At UNGA-Turkish Media

UN

Turkish media reporting that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in 'close contact' with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres regarding the future of the Black Sea Grain Initiative following the former's talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 4 September. Erdogan and Guterres are likely to discuss the future of the Turkey and UN-brokered deal at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) later in September.

  • Reuters: "...Erdogan was quoted as saying the latest U.N. proposal sought to address some Russian demands, and he repeated he believed a solution could be found soon.Russian demands include a return of its Agricultural Bank to the SWIFT payments system and insuring the ships involved in the grain initiative,"
  • Naturally, given the international arrest warrant issued against Putin by the ICC, the Russian president will not be in attendance at the UNGA, running from 18-26 September. As has been the case at the BRICS summit and the upcoming G20 summit, he will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
