Eskom Funding Needs Seen as “Highly Impossible” According to Energy Analysts

  • The acting CEO of Eskom is set to brief on the company’s performance, amid persistent breakdowns and load-shedding as well as accusations that the company is stalling in appointing a new head of the company, according to ENCA.
  • At the presentation of the South African Energy Action Plan yesterday, the Electricity Minister Ramokgopa stated his intentions to work with the private sector to fund power generation infrastructure improvements, however analysts cited by EWN see the plan to expand the grid as “highly impossible”.
  • The piece states that the utility will need over R100bln in fresh funds to expand the transmission network, on top of the bailouts received from the National Treasury.
  • There are no tier 1 releases due Wednesday, with focus on tomorrow’s PPI release and trade balance data later in the week.
