MNI London: Reuters reporting that the European Commission is “confident” its measures against state subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles are compatible with WTO rules following a decision by China today to request a WTO consultation on the EU tariffs.
- A spokesperson for China's Commerce Industry said: "The EU's preliminary ruling lacks a factual and legal basis, seriously violates WTO rules, and undermines the overall situation of global cooperation in addressing climate change."
- Reuters notes: “The European Union imposed provisional tariffs of up to 37.6% on imports of electric vehicles (EV) made in China in July, keen to protect its domestic EV production, after an EU investigation found the cars were subsidised by China.”
- A spokesperson for the European Commission told AFP: "The EU is carefully studying all the details of this request and will react to the Chinese authorities in due course according to the WTO procedures."
