EU Gas Market Requires Long Term Contracts to Improve Stability

Despite the fall in gas market volatility this winter the head of MET Germany urges an increase in long-term supply contracts to improve stability according to Montel.

  • “Germany has created the infrastructure for LNG imports, but in my opinion there are not enough efforts to bring long-term contracts to the market,” said Joerg Selbach-Roentgen.
  • Stable gas prices trading mostly sideways as seen before the Ukraine war and Covid-19 pandemic are unlikely to return, he added.
  • Europe is heavily dependent on demand in Asia amid global competition for gas.
  • Currently low prices compared with crisis levels also did not offer any real incentives for securing a long-term position on the market, he said.
