MNI BRIEF: ECB To Decide Policy Meet-By-Meet, Sept In Play
MNI (LONDON) - The ECB's Governing Council was unanimous in both holding policy unchanged and the decision not to set a rate path indicating a move in September, President Christine Lagarde said Thursday.
At the regular post-meeting briefing, Lagarde said policymakers were determined to remain data-dependent and were ready to make future policy decisions on a meeting-by-meeting basis, although she added that further data and another round of projections confirming the disinlationary trend would further boost the GC's confidence ahead by the September meeting.
Many policymakers have indicated that September would be a more likely meeting than July to discuss the next rate move, likely to be another cut, as updated projections would give a clearer view of the outlook. (See MNI SOURCES: Even ECB Hawks Confident Inflation On Track)
