EU Gas Storage Injection Rates Rise Back to Normal

Total European gas storage was 65.80% full on May 14 according to GIE compared to the five year seasonal average of 51.5% with net injection rates rising just above normal in recent days after seeing below normal rates from April 15 until May 11.

  • Net injections were 15.6% below the previous five year average levels in the week to May 14 but have risen just above normal in recent days. TTF prices are holding within a $1.5/MWh range with stable supplies and muted demand from mild temperatures but with support from ongoing concern for supply via Ukraine.
  • Net injections in the week to May 14 were just under 3,200GWh/d compared to the five year average showing net injections for the period of almost 3,790GWh/d.
  • Storage in Germany is at 172.5TWh (69.7% full), Italy at 139.1TWh (69.5%), Netherlands at 85.2TWh (59.2%), Austria at 75.6TWh (76.4%) and France at 69.9TWh (54.3%).
