EU Gas Withdrawals Increase Just Above Average Seasonal Rate

The gas withdrawal rate from European storage has increased to just above normal during the recent cooler weather in NW Europe.

  • EU natural gas storage withdrawals reached 8.24GWh/d on 23 Jan compared to an average of just 2.2GWh/d in the first half of January. The withdrawal rate increased to near normal levels due to the higher European gas demand. The five year average withdrawal rate for this time of year is approximately 7.5GWh/d.
  • Total European storage levels were above the five year range at 74.81% on 25 Jan according to GIE AGSI data compared to the average of 55.7%.
  • The countries with the largest gas storage volumes are Germany at 200.74TWh (82.91% full), Italy at 143.63Wh (74.25%), France at 93.18TWh (69.74%) and Netherlands at 98.55Wh (70.93%).
