EU General Court To Allow Tender For Joint Gas Buying Platform

NATURAL GAS

The EU General Court on Wednesday announced its decision to allow a tender for a joint gas purchases platform, after an initial ruling that blocked the tender, according to Montelnews.

  • Germany’s OTC energy trading platform Enmacc filed a lawsuit against the tender process, which initially halted the tender.
  • “We want to have the chance to be considered. We are, after all, the biggest tender platform in the EU and there basically is no other tendering platform for gas,” Enmacc CEO Jens Hartmann said after the ruling.
  • The EU agreed in December, companies must pool gas demand equal to at least 15% of their storage obligations next winter – about 13.5bcm – and seek offers for it through the new platform, in a bid to curb surging prices for consumers.
