POWER: EU Invests €1.2bn in Cross-Border Energy Projects

The EU is investing over €1.2bn in key cross-border energy infrastructure projects, with €645mn earmarked for the Bornholm Energy Island project linking Denmark and Germany and €33mn for the Danube InGrid electricity grid project between Hungary and Slovakia, it said.

  • Additionally, €250mn will be given to support hydrogen and CO2 storage infrastructure projects, respectively, across Europe.
  • These investments aim to enhance energy connectivity, decarbonise industries, and support the EU's renewable energy transition, the EU added.
  • The funding decision follows the 2024 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) call for proposals, which was just recently approved on 28 January.
  • The next CEF Energy call for proposals is planned for 2025.
