POWER: EU Mid-Day Power Summary: CWE Jan Power Tracks Weekly Gain

German January power tracks a 6% weekly net gain, while the French equivalent is up by over 7%, supported by forecasts for colder weather, lower wind output and gains in the energy complex. Nordic front-month power is only slightly up on the week with gains in German power and EU gas weighed against improved hydro balances in the region.

- TTF extends is holding onto gains today, tracking a weekly net gain amid volatile trading as the market weighs any chances of a continuation of gas transit via Ukraine in the new year. Putin and Zelensky both ruled out the renewal of a key gas transit deal for Europe on Thursday, but Central European countries continue to seek a way to keep gas flowing.
- EU ETS December 2025 is holding onto some gains today supported by colder, less windy weather and higher EU gas prices, with downside from weakness in EU equities. Allowances are currently tracking a weekly net increase of just above 2%.
- Oslo District Court has ruled in favour of Norwegian Air Shuttle, declaring the airline's method of fulfilling its 2020 EU ETS obligations lawful and overturning a NOK400mn (€33.7mn) penalty.
- EdF has shortened the outage at its 890MW Dampierre 4 nuclear reactor by one day to 21 December 23:00 CET.
- German TSO Amprion has signed contracts with Hitachi for the supply four converter stations for two high voltage direct current links that will connect Germany’s wind-rich North Sea region with North Rhine-Westphalia.
- The EIB and Iberdrola have signed a €100mn green loan agreement for the construction of a 242.8MW solar PV plant in Italy, that is scheduled to be operational in 2025.
- Svenska Kraftnat has signed a SEK5.2bn (€450mn) agreement for a 118 km cable to connect the island of Gotland – south of Stockholm – supporting its growing electricity demand and renewable energy expansion by 2030.
- TotalEnergies has acquired majority stakes in the 240MW Jammerland Bay and 165MW Lillebaelt South Danish offshore wind farms, with the projects to be inaugurated in 2029.
