EU Oil Ban Still Waiting

Talks continue this week amongst EU member states to try and convince Hungary to agree to the EU oil ban against Russia. The proposal is part of the EU’s sixth sanctions package against Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.

  • The EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell said after a meeting between the bloc’s foreign ministers yesterday in Brussels “Unhappily, it has not been possible to reach an agreement today,”
  • A number of diplomats have said they are confident a deal will be reached by the end of the week though there have been few signs so far Hungary is willing to agree. Instead, they want exemptions on pipeline imports to ensure they can continue supply from Russia.
