EU Onshore Wind Additions to Rebound in 2025
POWER
European onshore additions are expected to rebound to 17 GW/yr in 2025, after dipping this year, with yearly additions reaching around 22 GW/yr between 2027-30, according to BloombergNEF.
- The rise in yearly additions is mostly owing to the increase in auction subscription rates in Germany and Italy and as countries race to meet their 2030 targets, according to Bloomberg.
- Globally, countries will add a total of 124GW of new wind this year – 106GW of onshore and 18GW of Offshore.
- Onshore wind generation will remain a dominant wind source around the globe due to strong development in China - which is expected to build almost 60% of the world's additions between 2024-30. Global wind capacity is anticipated to be around 3,000GW by 2035.
