EU's Mora Talks Up Relations w/Iran, Talks To Resume Before Year-End

Speaking at a presser following the conclusion of the latest round of talks in Vienna on the Iran nuclear deal, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Enrique Mora stated that the EU team has established 'very quickly a very good working relationship with new Iranian colleagues'.

  • Says that the most relevant points of the new Iranian position have been incorporated into documents that can form the basis of talks.
  • Chinese envoy stated that talks will resume before year-end, with 27 Dec seen as likely date.
  • Despite the positive-sounding rhetoric, the Iranian position on nuclear talks has hardened significantly since Ebrahim Raisi became president. Little sign of compromise from either side could lead to sustained stalemate.
