EU To Launch Joint Gas Buying Tender In April

The European Union plans to take its first steps into the global natural gas market as a buyers’ cartel next month and first supplier contracts could be signed by June according to European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic

  • Initial estimates put joint demand from the 27 nations and three neighboring countries at 24bcm over the next three years.
  • The first tender will launch in April and the EU expects the first contracts with suppliers from the US, Middle East and Africa to be signed around June.
  • Following the first tender, the EU will organize more joint purchases on a regular basis to ensure gas supplies.
