FOREX: EUR losing streak extends into a tenth session
- EUR/USD printed a tenth session of lower lows Friday, with rates markets
adjusting in tandem as traders judge ECB policy as having renewed downside risk
in the coming months. Data remains particularly poor, raising focus on Friday's
MNI Interview with ECB's Vasle in which he talked up the possibility of the ECB
expanding their existing policy tools to combat economic weakness.
- Markets traded generally calmly for much of the Friday session, although a
generally poor set of retail sales figures and industrial production from the US
took some of the shine of US futures. This helped keep the JPY generally
positive, which outperformed into the close although Thursday's USD/JPY low
remains in tact headed into the new week. Focus likely remains on the
Coronavirus count out of China, which continues to tick higher as more cases are
reported overseas.
- The upcoming week will likely start slow, with US Presidents' Day Monday. Data
picks up later in the week with UK jobs & inflation numbers, German ZEW,
Canadian CPI, US PPI and prelim global February PMIs.
