Europe on Track to Fill Storage Despite Injections 17% Below Normal

NATURAL GAS

Storage injections have been about 17% below average since April but the EU should still comfortably reach the 90% target by November due to the high inventories at the end last winter.

  • European natural gas storage is now up to 72.56% full on 12 June according to GIE data and just over 200TWh above the five year average.
  • Storage could be 90% full by early August and close to 100% by mid-September if injections continue at the average rate observed since mid-April according to IEA.
  • If Russian pipeline gas supplies are fully cut, the EU could still fill to over 90% by the start of the 2023/24 winter.
  • Full storage gives no guarantee against winter volatility and supply risks from a cold winter, lower Russian piped gas and/or a tighter availability of LNG.

  • TTF WIN 23 down -1% at 49.77€/MWh
