European Fertilizer Industry Causality of High Gas Prices

  • Half of Europe’s ammonia is confirmed offline on Thursday after Yara announced further cuts in ammonia capacity, Chris Lawson, an analyst at researcher CRU Group, said by email to Bloomberg.

  • Confirmed urea capacity shut or curtailed at 46%, while 35% for nitrates
  • European farmers will now likely be forced to import fertilisers from out of the EU with higher associated cost.
  • BASF, CF Fertilisers, Grupa Azoty, PKN Orlen and Yara are the major fertiliser European based producers who have recently stated production cuts because of soaring gas prices.
