European Gas Prices Hitting Polish Chemical Production

Grupa Azoty, Poland’s biggest chemical company, has stopped producing some of its key products due to soaring gas prices – a theme developing across the European manufacturing industry.

  • “Due to the record prices of natural gas, the main raw material used in the production of Grupa Azoty SA, on August 22, 2022, the Company decided to temporarily shut down the nitrogen fertilizer, caprolactam and polyamide 6 production plant on August 23, 2022. Russia's aggression against Ukraine, since February 24, 2022, we have been observing extraordinary, historically high natural gas prices on European stock exchanges. Gas prices in the last six months increased from EUR 72 / MWh on February 22, 2022 to EUR 276 / MWh on August 22, 2022.”
