NATGAS: European Gas Rises as Ukraine Gas Transit End Looms

European gas is flat on Monday after facing strong support last week with Ukraine gas transit looking set to end shortly, while cool weather outlooks and draws from storage have added support.
- TTF JAN 25 up 0.5% at 44.34€/MWh
- In a Facebook post, Slovakia’s Fico said Putin confirmed that Russia was ready to continue delivering gas to the West via Ukraine, but this would be “practically impossible” after Jan. 1 given Kyiv’s stance.
- Last week, Fico held talks with Zelenskiy about the possibilities of gas transit and said he was surprised by the Ukrainian leader’s resistant stance. Hungary’s Orban said Saturday that his country is still seeking a solution that would allow flows to Europe via Ukraine to continue.
- European gas storage was 76% full on Dec. 21 vs the 5-yr seasonal norm of 79% for this time of year according to GIE.
- Norwegian nominated flows to the UK and Northwest Europe terminals at 336.60 mcm/d vs 5-day moving avg 334.46 mcm/d according to Gassco.
- US LNG exports are currently more profitable to Asia in February 2025, March 2025 and April 2025 BNEF reports.
- A $4.24 billion direct grant by the German government for four FSRUs received state aid rules clearance from the European Commission on Friday.
