European LNG Imports Decline with Warmer Weather

LNG import flows to Europe have fallen to 420mcm/d from record levels of up to 529mcm/d on 16 Dec as cold weather in NW Europe has given way to above normal temperatures at the end of December and into January.

  • Falling European gas prices have closed the premium over Asian gas prices with the JKM-TTF spread showing as positive over the last week. The spread was as low as -15$/mmbtu on 9 Dec.
  • The US LNG netback to Europe for Feb is estimated at 20.67$/mmbtu compared to the US netback to Asia at 22.47$/mmbtu according to Bloomberg. The netback calculations show spreads in favour of flows to Europe for March and into the summer months.
  • TTF JAN 23 up 5.9% at 86.12€/MWh
  • NBP JAN 23 up 7.2% at 202p/th
  • JKM Jan 23 down -7.4% at 28.51$/mmbtu
  • JKM-TTF Jan 23 down -2.9$/mmbtu at 1.87$/mmbtu
  • US Natgas FEB 23 down -0.1% at 4.68$/mmbtu
