EU: European Parliament committee says that the UK's latest Brexit offer "[does]
not match even remotely what was agreed as a sufficient compromise in the
backstop."
- Follows on from senior Belgian MEP Guy Verhofstadt's comments earlier today
that "On this element [the UK's new offer] it's very difficult - and nearly
impossible [...]repackaging the bad ideas that have already been floated in the
past."
- Approval of all three EU institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament)
required for deal to be implemented, as well as member state gov'ts. 
- With the UK gov't seeking to present image that the deal could get through
House of Commons, it is looking to pressure the EU into accepting deal. If EU
does not accept deal, UK gov't could attempt to shift blame for no-deal Brexit
onto Brussels.
