Ex-Mossad Chief-'Everything On Table' In Response To Iran Strikes

ISRAEL

Sky News reporting comments from former Mossad Director of Intelligence Zohar Palti regarding potential Israeli retaliation to Iran's drone/missile strikes over the weekend. Palti was asked, "So, it's now fair game, anything and everything is on the table including targeting nuclear facilities?", to which he responded "Everything is on the table right now."

  • As noted earlier (see 0957BST bullet), a direct strike on any Iranian nuclear facility would likely prove one of the most escalatory actions Israel could carry out in retaliation. A direct strike, rather than clandestine or other 'deniable' operations, would almost certainly spur another Iranian attack on Israeli territory, risking a continued tit-for-tat escalation.
  • The war cabinet - consisting of PM Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud), Defence Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud), and Minister without portfolio Benny Gantz (National Unity) with three observers - Minister without portfolio Gadi Eisenkot (National Unity), Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer (Likud) and MK Aryeh Deri (Shas) - is set to meet at an unspecified time today (17 Apr) to decide on Israel's response.
