Explosion Reported At Gas Pipeline Connecting Lithuania-Latvia

Wires carrying reports that a gas pipeline connecting Latvia and Lithuania has been stuck by an explosion.

  • Operator Amber Grid told Reuters they are, "investigating the cause of the explosion."
  • Latvian News outlet Delfi reports: "On Friday, January 13, around 4 p.m, Panevėžys district the police were informed that a gas pipeline exploded in the village of Pasvalis Vienkiemii, located in the district of Pasvalis, on Joniškėlis street . Police officials inform that the flames reach a height of about 50 meters. After the incident, it was decided to evacuate the surrounding residents."
  • The explosion is likely to disrupt the supply of gas Latvia and northern Lithuania.
