UK: Fallout from gov'ts decision to allow Chinese SOE Huawei to contribute to
building UK's 5G network continues to spread.
- PM Johnson set to hold call with US President Donald Trump this afternoon to
try to smooth any issues. Backlash from Republicans in Congress, suggesting
limited security sharing in future due to potential compromise to UK's security
apparatus. Trump himself has said little on the subject.
- Some Conservatives in parliament have also voiced concerns that allowing
Huawei to into UK 5G network may compromise security. One of the first
intra-party tests PM has faced since winning Dec 2019 election. 
- Gov't claims limited role and stringent restrictions on Huawei's activities
will neutralise prospect of security breaches. 
- PM engaged in difficult balancing act in trying to keep US and China happy as
it leaves EU and seeks to begin trade talks with both. 
- No.10 officials, namely Dominic Cummings, strong advocates for Huawei's role,
with view super-fast internet nationwide is a better economic advantage for UK
than trade deal with US.
