  • Meloni: The EU should consider taking energy subsidies out of member states' deficit/GDP calculations.
  • Meloni: 'A conservative gov't will be cautious in managing public finances'.
  • Meloni: We want to defend national interests in Europe but we will not do 'crazy things'.
Sitting as the favourite to take over from PM Mario Draghi after the 25 September election, Meloni has recently sought to calm international and European observers/investors as to her party's plans for gov't. Has distanced party from post-fascist roots and claimed her gov't will not breach EU fiscal rules.
