February CPI Takes Focus, Officials To Speak At Banking Forum

POLAND
  • Poland will release CPI figures for February at 09:00GMT/10:00CET. The February reading is expected to mark a cyclical peak, with consensus expecting headline inflation to print at +18.5% Y/Y, a figure also cited by NBP Governor Adam Glapinski during his press conference last week. It should be noted that February data will be subject to the annual re-weighting of the CPI basket and Poland's statistics office will also publish the revised numbers for January, adjusted for the new weightings. The central bank will then release core CPI figures for February on Thursday. Another miss in headline inflation would cement market expectations that the next move in interest rates will be down.
  • Poland's financial watchdog chief told DGP daily that the body is working on legislation that would establish a mechanism for settling disputes over the controversial CHF mortgage loans. Any such draft bills would have to be formally tabled by the President, government or a group of MPs.
  • NBP Governor Adam Glapinski and financial watchdog chief Jacek Jastrzebski and other government officials will speak at the Banking Forum in Warsaw.
