Fin Min Scholz: Decisive Steps Needed To Curtail COVID-19 Infections

GERMANY

German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz raises the prospect of new COVID-19 restrictions being implemented as the number of new cases in the country continues to climb.

  • Says that Germany has fared relatively well during the pandemic, but whether that remains the case "is up to us".
  • Says that "quick and decisive steps are needed to halt the new wave of infections." Advocates "targeted, temporary and focused" restrictions that would apply nationwide.
  • On October 26 the average increase in cases across the past week stood at 10,456 per day in Germany, the highest seven-day average on record during the pandemic.
