Final Day for Referendums Across Breakaway Regions in Eastern Ukraine

RUSSIA
  • The White House is pushing back on calls from lawmakers to sharpen the enforcement of a proposed oil price cap for Russia products, with Biden’s administration aiming to avoid any escalation that officials worry could overturn the diplomatic push, according to WSJ.
  • The referendum process across annexed territories in eastern Ukraine concludes today, with the results unlikely to show any material resistance to full annexation by Moscow. As such, the regions are expected to be granted permission from the Kremlin to be brought under Russian defence agreements, which could theoretically give Putin the legal basis for use of nuclear weapons in the Ukraine conflict.
  • No key data due Tuesday, with focus on tomorrow’s industrial production & retail sales releases.
